More info and sources
This year’s meeting with inspectors, competent authorities and policy workers was held on 7 and 8 October via Teams. Around 40 people attended the meeting.

The meeting was organized around a series of 4 main topics. For each of the topics different break-out groups were organized to support discussion between delegates from different countries:

  • Killing pigs for disease control,
  • Moving towards free farrowing,
  • Transport of pigs, and
  • Policy measures to prevent routine docking.

Conclusions reached in the subgroups included “Guidelines on fitness for transport are less effective when not accompanied by guidelines on on-farm killing”, “In free farrowing systems you can achieve the same piglet mortality levels as in conventional systems” and “Enforcing a total ban on tail docking is easier than enforcing a ban only on routine docking”.

The report will be published on the EURCAW-Pigs website, and will reflect the discussions that were held.

If you missed this meeting but would have liked to attend, please note that next year the meeting will be in Brussels on the same dates: 7+8 October 2026.
