Once a year, EURCAW-Pigs invites representatives of the pig supply chain, related professional organisations and civil society organisations to discuss and reflect on the Centre’s work programme and activities. These representatives form the so-called Reflection Board. Important outcome of the last meeting (held remotely via Teams on 26th of October 2021) was to collaborate on finding possible demonstrators of good and best practices and inspiring examples on how to deal with welfare requirements.

Update of EURCAW-Pigs’ activities

The Board was represented by 9 delegates, and was welcomed by Hans Spoolder, director of EURCAW-Pigs, and by Kornilia Zafeiropoulou, on behalf of unit G5 of DG SANTE. The Centre’s achievements and plans were presented in each of the five activity areas required by law (Art 96 of ‘The Official Controls Regulation’), as part of the current Work Programme (WP) 2021- 2022. The five activities were presented by the Centre’s coordinating team, and the Board was asked to reflect on these. Each presentation was followed by a constructive discussion and helpful suggestions, as summarized in the report. Links to the presentations can be found in the report and on this webpage.

Good practice examples

One of EURCAW-Pigs’ activities is to identify farms, transport companies and abattoirs demonstrating good practices of implementation of EU legislation. The Board indicated that they can support EURCAW-Pigs in this activity, as in industry many good practice examples are being developed. The Centre preferentially would like to receive pictures or videos with short explanations, or information already published on the internet (e.g. videos on Youtube). All aspects within the information material should comply with the respective legal requirements. The information material should also not include any advertising.
