The event was hosted by the Italian Ministry of Health in Rome, where the Italian Director-General for Animal Health, Giovanni Filippini, delivered the opening remarks. Following this, Jens Malmkvist and Isabelle Veissier, members of EURCAW Ruminants & Equines, offered heartfelt tributes to the late Professor Harry Blokhuis.

In the morning of the first day, the partipants worked in subgroups on ongoing tasks of the 4 EURCAWs such as training and communication. During a world café session in the afternoon, ideas and key strategic actions were exchanged on transversal topics like networking, improving information flow toward targets, or technical studies. The morning of the second day was dedicated to an open discussion on the key challenges and strategic priorities for the next EURCAWs’ Work Programmes.

The meeting concluded with a well-deserved tribute to Dr Isabelle Veissier, a valued member of EURCAW Ruminants & Equines, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the field of animal welfare and to the Centre. We extend our sincere thanks for her dedication and achievements and wish her a happy, fulfilling, and well-deserved retirement.
