Episodes 3 and 4

Episode 3 is with Mette S. Herskin, professor of Animal welfare during critical life events at the Aarhus University, Denmark. Among other things, host and podcaster Maarten Dallinga talked to her extensively about the current situation regarding pig transport and the available scientific knowledge.

In the nearly 25 years that veterinarian David McKervey worked as an inspector in the pig industry, he saw almost nothing improve in terms of animal welfare. And that hurts him: "We can treat them better, but we don't. I see suffering that is unnecessary and quite easily preventable." You can listen to David in episode 4. At the end of the conversation, he reads a special poem: 'View of a Pig' by Ted Hughes.

Pig welfare in Action emerged from contacts with inspectors in the field who described how they would spend many hours travelling to farms for inspections and also expressed a keen interest in both topics of welfare as well as the experiences of other inspectors.
